Our Film for Film Fest- Our Names- Our Story

Room 1 worked so hard last term to complete our film. It started off with an Inquiry into who we are, the importance of our names. This was ignited by our shared reading which was called ‘The Name Jar’ a story about a Korean girl who moved to Australia and was shy about traditional name. She asked her new classmates for a new name, but came to the understanding that she should be proud of her culture, heritage and her name.

The students went home and interviewed their whanau, to find out the story behind their names. They shared this new learning with the class. They were super pumped!! They even interviewed their teachers to find out the stories.

Enjoy our movie!

Matariki Landscape Scenes using Google Drawings

WOW!!!!! I have had an amazing time working with the akonga of Room 1.

As a revision, we looked at tools we could use on google drawings. The tamariki sat around in a circle and as a whanau and together we created our Matariki scenes using the polyline tool on google drawings.

It was definitely a learning experience, and I pushed myself out of my comfort zone. Remember art is in the beauty of the beholder and there is something wonderful about giving new things a go.

Come along to Room 1 and check out our Matariki Art, we are so proud it!!

Learning About the Kawa of Care Student Agreement

Today in Cybersmart with Mr Goodwin we learned about the Kawa of Care student agreement.

We revisited all the learning we have done in previous years around looking after and caring about our devices. It’s really helpful to think through some of this stuff each year so that we continue to look after our devices and follow the Kawa of Care properly.

Here is the presentation we used on the Cybersmart Challenge Blog if you want to try it yourself!
